Sustainability - Certification schemes for sustainable markets
Sustainability certification enables manufacturers to demonstrate compliance with the legal sustainability requirements for biofuels and, in the areas of food, feed, and chemical/technical products, to show that the raw materials were produced sustainably and that traceability is guaranteed at every point in the supply chain.
The verification of compliance with sustainability requirements, as well as the issuance of certificates of accredited certification programs is carried out by recognized certification bodies (so-called CBs'or CABs; conformity assessment bodies), which are registered with a scheme-holder accredited by the European Commission.
QHSEcert is accredited as a certification body for the uniform verification of the sustainability criteria for bioenergy according to RED II (renewable energy directive). This accreditation as a certification body according to ISO17065 is carried out by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE).
For the respective certifications, accredited certification bodies are in turn required to apply only the certification schemes recognized by the European Commission.
QHSEcert is registered as a certification body for certification programs with the following scheme holders:
- Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme (SURE)
- International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)
The production of forestry and agricultural biomass, as well as residual and waste materials from solid and gaseous biomass for the production of electricity, heating and cooling are certified.
Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme (SURE)
SURE enables economic operators in the biomass and biogas market to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of RED II in a transparent, reliable and legally secure manner.
The production of forestry and agricultural biomass, as well as residual and waste materials from solid and gaseous biomass for the production of electricity, heating and cooling are certified.
International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)
ISCC Certification
covers sustainable agricultural biomass, biogenic wastes and residues, non-biological renewable materials and recycled carbon-based materials
ISCCplus Certification
ISCC PLUS Certification is a voluntary scheme applicable to the bioeconomy and circular economy in the areas of food, feed, chemicals, plastics, packaging, textiles and renewable raw materials derived from a renewable energy process. ISCC PLUS covers the same certification requirements as ISCC EU, but can be adapted to the needs of different markets or specific applications. All types of biomass, wastes and residues, non-biological renewable energy sources and recycled carbon materials can be certified under ISCC PLUS.
